Sand Flat Volunteer Fire Department to Host Coffee

Virginia Fain will host a “Coffee” at 10:00AM on Saturday Morning June 12th for residents of Sandflat who would like to participate in this year’s annual fundraiser. The coffee is open to all residents and will be held at Haydn Cutler’s home at 1039 CR 1743.

The Annual fundraiser will be held at the Fire Hall every First Saturday in July (this year it’s on July 3rd). Volunteers will be selling tickets for the Quilt to be raffled off at the fundraiser. Tee shirts will also be sold again this year. SFFD is looking for donations for the Silent Auction. Local Real Estate Brokers and other businesses are asked to donate their logo give away items such as pens and pencils for the Silent Auction. Donors please contact Virginia Fain at 940-644-5853.

Sand Flat Volunteer Fire Department has First Responder status, and they get county funds of $900.00 a month. First Responder means that the fire department gets calls from the 911 dispatcher for Medical and Fire Emergencies, but not for emergencies on the Lake such as “boating accident,” “missing boat,” or “lost person” calls. Lake emergencies still need to call 911. According to Fain, “Although the fire department now has 15 volunteers, we are not yet in a situation to have someone on call all the time.” If you are interested in volunteering, regular volunteer training is held on the 3rd Saturday of every month at 9:00AM at the Fire Hall.

If you own or are purchasing a home you might like to know that the Fire Department has #4 rating for insurance purposes. This is better than when you had to report “no fire department within 5 miles.”

Current Board Members Are: Haydn Cutler, President, Foy Mitchell, Fire Chief, Ken Carnley, Vice President, Jeanne Sluder, Secretary, and Gene Faurot, Treasurer.
